Turnaround Practice History
Welcome to the Turnaround Practice Clearinghouse! We have compiled a collection of resources intended to support school and district leaders, ESE staff and other stakeholders who are working on school improvement efforts in Massachusetts.
In 2016, The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Collaboration (ESE) collaborated with American Institutes for Research (AIR) to complete research on why some schools receiving School Design Funding (SRG) have been able to improve student outcomes and exit turnaround status, while others have not. Results from this study revealed a set of four key Turnaround Practices, or common systems, structures, features, foci or characteristics of schools that successfully improved student outcomes. These Turnaround Practices include:
- Shared Leadership, Shared Responsibility, and Professional Collaboration
- Intentional Practices for Improving Instruction
- Student-Specific Support and Instruction to All Students
- School Climate and Culture
The Turnaround Practice Clearinghouse aims to collect, categorize and organize resources for ESE staff, school and district leaders, educators and partner organizations to help promote successful turnaround efforts. The website in currently in 'testing phase' and feedback is welcome here! We plan to continue to add build on the site and vette new resources.
